Tour Overview
Kanazawa is a town of samurai. For some 300 years since Maeda Toshiie I ruled the area in the Warring States period, generations of feudal lords have nurtured Kanazawa's unique samurai culture. In the Samurai Diaries martial arts course, visitors can explore the roots of Kanazawa's culture by experiencing the martial arts and tea ceremony practised by the feudal lords and samurai of the time. In the Kyudo (Japanese archery) experience, you can learn directly from masters how to shoot an arrow, a compulsory subject for samurai.

In the Edo period, bows and arrows were taught as a compulsory martial art for samurai. You will visit the dojo next to Kenrokuen Garden and shoot a bow with professionals belong to Kyudo Association in Ishikawa.

you will change into an archery uniform, and a member of the Ishikawa Prefectural Kyudo Federation will teach you the Hassetsu, which is a series of actions from etiquette and posture to actually shooting an arrow at a target.

You will visit Kenrokutei which is a historic place where the lord once entertained important guests. In this wonderful setting, you can experience Kanazawa’s tea ceremony culture and Japanese traditions.
