Tour Overview
Experience Origami, Mizuhiki, and other uniquely Japanese paper crafts at a paper specialty store that has been in business for about 200 years.
This is an experience where you can learn directly from paper professionals at a store in the Omicho Market.
The “KamiBunbou Araki” in Omicho Market was established in 1827.
It is a paper specialty store with a long history of offering washi to the Maeda family and serving as a chirigami exchange for the magistrate's office during the Edo period.
The history of the paper wholesaler has led to a lineup that includes yuzen paper with vivid colors and patterns, folk craft paper, dyed and blurred Japanese paper, paper with various textures, and origami paper.
In addition, craft works made by Mr. and Mrs. Araki (brother and sister) using paper and mizuhiki are displayed throughout the store.
Takashi Araki, the 6th generation “Oriori Origami Man,” creates a variety of works and has a YouTube channel, and also sells origami kits supervised by Takashi at his store. Takashi's sister, Asaka, also makes cute and very popular mizuhiki and paper quillings.
In this hands-on experience, you can choose from origami, mizuhiki, and paper quilling.
